Cambridge match and Valentine's

17 februari 2017 - Cambridge, Verenigd Koninkrijk

Hi all,

It's been a little while since my previous blog as I've had quite a busy week!

This weekend was filled with volleyball. On Friday we had volley fitness of which I had substantially less muscle pain ~ improvement! On Saturday I had a lazy morning with an English breakfast before I went to the training session. Unfortunately my cold, which had started Friday evening, had progressed. At the training it turned out I wasn't the only one though. After the training most of us went for dinner and drinks at a pub called ''The Architect', just north of the city centre to celebrate on the the girl's birthday! It was quite a nice place and although the guys behind the bar were pretty unorganized, the food was really good! Around 10:30pm I almost fell asleep due to the continuous battle in my body against that bloody virus, so I went home.

On Sunday I had my very first Cambridge match. I was expecting to only play one set, or less, as I am new to the team - which would have been fine as I still had a terrible cold even affecting my eyes at that point. However, after the warm up I was put on the field straight away and I could only leave once the match was finished, haha ! It was quite an exciting game which ended in a 2-2 tie eventually. I had to get used to playing with a libero, and their setup when receiving a serve, but apart from that I believe I played a fine game! It was just a little awkward when the tears were rolling down my cheeks as I was serving, but well, I hope it came across as passionate, hehe.

Tuesday it was Valentine's day, and as it was the first time I was alone, I had decided to ignore the day as a whole and buy myself a nice box of chocolates. So I did. At the end of the day however, Rachel texted me whether I was up for dinner or drinks in town! So we went to a place called 'All Bar One' and had a lovely tapas dinner including red wine and rose pedals ~ how romantic! My first 'Galentine's Day', which is apparently a new trend, and I like it!

Latest update: Yesterday evening I went for a walk in Selwyn College, which is beautiful, and as the night was clear you were able to see lots and lots of stars. Really a beautiful sight! And when I cycled back home later on Mill Road, the moon shined so bright with just this one small cloud hoovering in front of it, lighting up all the small English houses, again creating an amazing view. I love the night and I've always missed that in the lit up Amsterdam.. I'm really starting to appreciate the beauty of Cambridge more and more.

Upcoming: Varsity! Cambridge vs. Oxford volleyball this Saturday.. should be good!

Much love,

PS. Please realize for some reason the site did not publish the this blog the first time I uploaded it, so I had to type it TWICE.
