At the lab

A new update on my stay!

I have added some photo's of the lab in the album. The lab itself is quite new and has a very modern design with small labs and offices. I have now my own, large desk which is right next to all other members (PhD/students) of my group. My group, the Wills group, exists of less than 10 members but we work closely together with the group of Prof. Sinclair (HCMV microRNAs).

This week, I have followed several introductions (general, flow cytometry) and I've been to some meetings. One of them was the general group meeting, for which I was slightly late (1/2 min), so I tried to walk in secretly. But when I walked in I heard "So, I want to introduce everybody to Selas, my new master student from the Netherlands" .. awkward. I've also set up some small experiments to get to know the cells I will be working with and to test my viruses for their behaviour (replication, spread etc.).

Working days are more or less 9am-5/6pm and since I am home within 20 min I have plenty of free time in the evening. On Wednesday a new house mate moved in, Ben, and for some reason everybody was home so we had a nice evening all together! Although I've had only two nights by myself this week I still feel weird for having so much free time .. Back in the Netherlands I made 10-12 working hours (due to the travelling) and after I had plans every night with volleyball, family, or friends. I really love to be busy, so I hope to create the same life style here within a few weeks ~ I am just impatient, haha!

Tomorrow I will go for brunch at the Relevant with my housemate Rachel, we are quite getting along! All of my house mates are very nice actually.
