CMV Conference 2017

2 juni 2017 - Noordwijkerhout, Nederland

Hi all,

I'm trying to catch up with you guys on everything that has happened, but I realize I'm am not really making it happen. So now, I even took my tablet to the pub - starring Rachael and Ben - a perfect place of inspiration. To write up some of my stories again.

Although I had been partying in the beautiful Amsterdam for the past days, I was actually back home because of a CMV conference (my virus) in Noordwijkerhout. IT was was nice to be back, last time had been just before I left. Noordwijk is still one of my favorite places back home.

I'd never been to a conference, so this was gonna be a new experience! All Cambridge students stayed together in an AirBnB somewhere just outside Noordwijkerhout. I borrowed my aunt's car, which turned out to be very useful for getting some food at the Lidl in between the talks. The two speeding tickets I received afterwards were less fun however...

The conference was mostly long, and my attention span was not.. haha. Some of the talks were quite interesting, but most of the research was very different from what I am studying. That made it sometimes less interesting. The food during lunches and social activities was quite good though! We went for sushi - the restaurant with the tablet, omnomon - during the first night. I skippe the trip to Amsterdam, as I wasn't really interested in a touristic view of the city. Onwednesday there was a conference party, with food, jazz music and late night bowling. The organizer of the symposium sang herself - pretty impressive.

All together it was a nice way to get to know my colleagues a bit better and I've met some other nice students being there. I think going to conferences will also be more fun the more people you get to know. Especially once involved in such a specific research area.

That's all for now!

Love,
